Last month I wrote that journalism in the United States had hit an all time low and stating that it could not possibly get any worse – I was clearly wrong. Journalists used to be the protectors of the truth leveling the playing field and questioning everything and everyone regardless of the power or position of the speaker. An American press that had been reaching fever pitch against everything Bush turned into a fawning propaganda wing for everything Obama.
Unfortunately fawning has turned into idiotic, even at some of the most prestigious of “news” outlets like CNN. CNN anchor Deb Feyerick asked Saturday afternoon if an approaching asteroid, which will pass by Earth on February 15, “is an example of, perhaps, global warming?” Just to prove I am not making this up, here is the clip – watch the expression of the science guy when she asks the question, that is priceless.
I know that the profession of “journalist” has devolved into “spokesperson” where most simply read what they are told to say, but I didn’t realize that there is no longer a minimum level of intelligence required. There are so many levels of stupid in Ms. Feyerick’s question, I almost don’t know where to begin. First, the asteroid in question has been traveling the universe for billions of years. Since even the most aggressive advocate of claims of man created global warming point to the start of the industrial revolution around two centuries ago, the asteroid is several billion years too old to be connected by any man-made activities.
Second, Ms. Feyerick’s question highlights one aspect of the propaganda surrounding climate change that the press has used to intentionally muddles discussion about climate change. NO ONE contends that climate change does not exist (or at least no one of any intelligence). Greenland was a swamp 250,00 years ago and most of North America was encased in ice as little as 10,000 years ago. There always has been and always will be climate change.
The debate is over man’s impact on climate change and whether and to what extent the activities of man have changed climate change patterns. Al Gore made himself a fortune by “heating up” the global warming debate with his propaganda piece “An Inconvenient Truth,” an alarmist film that Gore made to monetize investments that he made to create the huge wealth he has today.
If you understand ANYTHING about the global warming debate, you would recognize that an ancient asteroid has nothing to do with global warming. Even asking the question shows such a complete lack of understanding anything even “issue adjacent” to climate change. I am very disappointed that Bill Nye, whose purported mission is to “clear up miconceptions of science” was oddly silent to correct the reporters hugely stupid question. I hope that he was just too stunned to answer.

A truly explosive expose’, Mr. Willis. I am sure this will shake the foundation of journalism to its core and utterly destroy CNN.
It never ceases to amaze me the pettiness of the right wing in this country. Just turn on Fox Newz any day and you’ll see the real decline in journalistic integrity.
P.S. It’s customary, while feigning fauxrage and criticizing others, to at least quote them properly. She said “an effect” not “an example“. And try not to be so jealous of a successful businessman such as Mr. Gore. Had you applied yourself, you could have been successful too.
Snoopy, do you really actually believe what you write anymore? Fox has enough trouble keeping up with the things the other media ignores. Unlike NBC and MSNBC which has been caught manufacturing stories through false but creative editing.
Fox has zero integrity. Just look at their demographic. Rove’s meltdown. Hannity’s lies and hate nightly. (Referring to our POTUS daily as The Annointed One is integrity to you?) Pretty much anything Gretchen vomits. Douchey and his little Hillary “facelift” faux pas (denied – showing outstanding integrity there, of course.) How’s that real time video of Benghazi workin’ for ya? Malkin is the shizzle for hate incarnate. Megan’s blonde moments could give you enough material for 5 years. I could go on and on about their “integrity”. But again, I just refer you to their demographic. And once again you conflate Fox covering DIFFERENT stories with others ignoring. ‘Nuff said.
So you gonna go edit your “quote” or ya just gonna plagiarize (erroneously) from the little Newsbusters extremely biased in-depth investigative piece?
And you didn’t answer why you hate success…when it’s a leftie. If Romney’s destructive Leveraged Buyouts are to be honored, surely a successful investor such as ole Al should be also. You right wingers are a hilarious (and hypocritical) bunch.
Once again you failed in your “rebuttal”.
I don’t ever hate success regardless of which side of the aisle the person comes from. I do attack hypocrites that create a false panic and then profit from the chaos they create or that criticize those that have wealth from the comfort of their yacht or limo.
I don’t recall any attacks on the hypocrite “job creator” (publicly)/”job destroyer” (privately) Romney. No attack on Romney’s changing of the term Leveraged Buyout (when the connotation became a negative) to the benign Private Equity. Guess that make you a hypocrite with a double standard. Yeah, the left controls the message with “language”, huh? Perhaps you’ve missed the right wing’s most recent (actual) rewriting of terminology to be used to control current messaging.
You need to step up your game, GW. But then your motto isn’t “Fair and Balanced”, is it?
Beautiful take down of GW, Snoopy D, although it is a little bit like shooting fish in a barrel.
Well, to push the matter to its extreme, let us examine a global warming theory:
The astroid started to travel so many milions or more of years ago, in a trajectrory that will make it pass X miles from earth.
Now, our planet warmed up a few degrees in the past 200 yeras, so its diameter increased by a few inches.
The astroid is now attracted towards our planet by larger gravitational force, and that is why it gets closer to our planet, a distance Y, smaller than X.
Now of course all of the above is B.S. and this is exactly where our journalism is now – a bunch of B.S. at the service of politicians that care more about not pissing anyone who would prefer to live of others sweat – because their numbers are so big now that they decide the election then about setting the country right. They look at the catastrophic situation that now develops in Europe and still want to lead us in the same direction.
Do you have a spam issue on this site; I also am a blogger, and I was curious about your situation; many of us
